A meniscus forms whenever liquid flows through closely packed fibers. If the liquid forms a contact angle below 90° with the material of the fibers, the liquid flows spontaneously (imbibes) in the region between the fibers. The force acting on the fibers near the contact lines may lead to deformation of fibers, which affects the imbibition rate. In this study, the meniscus propagation between two fibers is modelled theoretically and numerically. The long-term evolution of the meniscus will be investigated by employing CFD methods. An analysis of this imbibition dynamics will help us understand the wetting process in complex systems.
